After leaving Mr. Crowe’s Garden, Sullivan joined the Atlanta-based Southern rock band Drivin’ N’ Cryin’ in 1987, just as they were signing their first recording contract with Island Records. He replaced original drummer Paul Lenz and was recruited “just in time to accompany the band for its first major-label release”

Sullivan’s tenure with Drivin’ N’ Cryin’ spanned over 20 years, during which he helped establish the band as a significant force in the Southern rock scene. The band was known for their blend of punk energy and Southern rock sensibilities, with Sullivan’s drumming providing the foundation for their sound. He performed on several of their most successful albums, including “Whisper Tames the Lion” (1988), “Mystery Road” (1989), and “Fly Me Courageous” (1991).
